FLORIDA UNIVERSITY AMONG TOP TEN PATENT RECIPIENTS
According to a press release by the United States Patent & Trademark Office, The University of Florida ranks 7 in the list of universities receiving patents in 2005. The University of Florida was issued 64 patents (up from 2004 when it received 41 patents and a 13 ranking on the list).
The University of California ranked number 1 on the list with 390 issued patents (actually down from 2004 when it was issued 424). Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property John Dudas was quoted as saying “America’s economic strength and global leadership depend on continued technological advances. Groundbreaking discoveries and patented inventions generated by innovative minds at academic institutions have paid enormous dividends, improving the lives and livelihoods of generations of Americans.”
